Mariinsky Ballet brings ballet classic back to the Center October 2–7

Who now would believe that when Swan Lake premiered in Russia in 1877, it got bad reviews? Nevertheless, a new version of the production entered in the company's repertoire and continued to be performed. Today, of course, it is one of the most beloved of the classic ballets: the white tutus, all those feathers, a handsome prince and an evil villain who has cast a spell on the swans. And when it comes to performance, it's hard to beat the Mariinsky Ballet for its sublime interpretation and stupendous dancing. Canada's National Post says, "Glorious dancing… the Mariinsky's Swan Lake is more than mesmerizing" and The Guardian describes it as, "Jumps high, neat and immaculately shaped, arms heartbreakingly expressive. The chorus of swans remain the definition of a living work of art." Accompanied by its own Mariinsky Orchestra, this Swan Lake will enchant audiences with true love, betrayal and redemption.
